Our Corryvreckan wildlife tour has thrown up another surprise species! After a long day with 3 boats out on the water our last trip on Tuesday 9th August proved to be the most exciting. After an initial call from one of the skippers of a Basking Shark our boats headed towards the Gulf of the Corryvreckan to find… not a lot. After a thorough search of the area with slightly heavy hearts the boats headed off only to come across a Minke Whale feeding in the area!
After a brief consultation over the look and behaviour of our apparent Basking Shark the conclusion was made that it was in fact the Ocean Sunfish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_sunfish), or Mola mola, usually seen in slightly warmer waters. A great find, and a rare one too!
Our Corryvreckan wildlife tours run throughout the week morning and afternoon. It’s a great way of seeing the area and whatever species are around to show themselves to our eagle eyed crew and skippers!
